Who are the overcomers that I am referring to?
What does the Bible say about overcomers?
How does being an overcomer apply to my life today?
Can I be an overcomer?
What if I don't feel like an overcomer?
What am I overcoming?
What is my reward if I become an overcomer?
Who are the Overcomers?
What do you think of when I say the word "Overcomer?" does it make you think of someone strong? Maybe someone who has been through something but made it out to the other side?
To me being an overcomer is being someone who doesn't give up. When I hear or think of the word overcomer, I think of troubles and trials. Bumpy roads and steep hills to climb. Often our lives are not as easy as we'd once hoped. This can make for an interesting journey with lots of windy valleys and even some dark holes that make it hard to see where we are going.
But....
What does the Bible say about Overcomers?
I've done some research and found 23 Bible verses that talk specifically about overcomers.
Overcomers are people who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. In believing that, you also believe that when he came to this world he was God in the flesh who was completely SINLESS. He had to overcome this world to save his people. He had to take what they world gave him, and remain sinless. He had to overcome the evils of the world. He did that to take and pay for our sins that he did not commit. AND, HE DID!!
In the book of Revelations, it talks a lot about being an overcomer.
Revelation 12:11 says that "They overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death."
Who is the "they" they are talking about? The overcomers!! Just like Jesus was, he did not love his own life even when faced with death. He willing sacrificed his life to overcome the world's sin for us.
In 1 John 5:4-5 it says "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"
How does being an overcomer apply to my life today?
Being an overcomer to me means to be separate from this world and it's teaching, it's social demands, it's rules of operation, and all other aspects that take you away from the word of God, basically sin.
In 1 John 4:4 it says "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."
Who have you little children overcome? Them. Who is them? Everyone outside of the word of God. That can be your job, boss, spouse, a family member, even an acquiescence. It can be a worldly view or television show you're hooked to. You have to decide which master you are going to serve? Will it be God? and His word? or Will it be Satan? and His influence?
To be an overcomer means standing up for your faith even when it is unpopular. Even if it's costing you because in the end when all this is over and Jesus does return for you, you want to be ready! You want to be someone like Him who didn't conform to the world but changed it forever.
Can I be an overcomer?
I was hoping you'd ask me that and the answer may surprise you!! The answer is "YES!!" Yes, you can!! BUT....it's not easy. There will be hardships along the way. He never said you wouldn't be persecuted for your faith. You will be. Just like He was. People you love may leave you, turn from you, you may lose your job, spouse, or something else very significant to your life. These scriptures below are all on persecution.
Psalms 9:13 Have mercy on me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the gates of death:
Psalms 119:86 All your commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help you me.
Jeremiah 20:11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
Matthew 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
John 15:18 If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
1 Corinthians 4:12 And labor, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
2 Corinthians 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
1 Thessalonians 3:4 For truly, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and you know.
2 Timothy 3:12 Yes, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Hebrews 10:33 Partly, whilst you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and afflictions, and partly, whilst you became companions of them that were so used.
1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you:
1 Peter 4:16 Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
So as you can see it is something we need to mentally prepare for and endure.
What if I don't feel like an overcomer?
You won't always feel like you can conquer an army. That is why it is so important to say in the word of God. You have to know what the Bible says and what God says to be able to clearly determine how you should stand or even what you should think or feel. It's easy for us to get caught up in life. In our troubles of right now, the stresses of the day today, and all the negatives aspects around you on a daily basis. You won't always feel like an overcomer. Just remind yourself with scriptures that you are!!
Romans 8:37
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
What am I overcoming?
You are overcoming all the evil that comes against you. You are overcoming Satan and his pull on your life to get you to live in eternity in Hell with him FOREVER!! You are standing up for the Word of God. You are standing up for your faith in Jesus Christ!!
John 10:28-30
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. "I and the Father are one."
Jesus is holding you in the palm of His hand. Everyone the Father gives Him, He loses not one!! Never stop trusting God for your salvation. Ask, and repent daily, turn from sin and ask for Him to save your soul from eternal death.
What is my reward if I become an overcomer?
This is one of my favorite things to talk about. One because I think it gives the ability to see God's power VS our own. In every scripture, it doesn't say "You can overcome the world yourself because you are just so strong!!" It says that "you can overcome the world because God overcame the world first!!" So you are depending on His work that has already been completed for you to be able to overcome as well. It in His strength and power that we are able to stand against the enemy and his army. We need to put on our Armor daily. Being prepared for a battle. The battle for our soul.
So what is the reward if you are an overcomer? Other than eternal life with God, which by all means is move than enough but there is more to it than that.
The last book in the Bible has always intrigued me. I've read it over and over again. Wanting to unlock its mysteries of the future end times.
After lots of reading, a few Bible study classes, and mass research online I can say I feel I have an okay understanding of its meanings. Although, still very complex.
One of the things that I did take away was a number of times He talks about being an overcomer.
In the Book of Revelation, in chapter 2 verse 7 it says "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God."
Chapter 2:17
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it."
Revelation 2:26
"He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS."
Revelation 3:5
"He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments, and will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels."
Revelation 3:12
"He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, and the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name."
Revelation 3:21
"He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne."
and Revelation 12"11
"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death."
Still not convicted that being an overcomer is the right choice? Let's go over what we read...
Overcomers get:
A white stone
A new name
The name of God and His city written on them
You get to sit on the Throne with Christ
You will be a pillar in His Temple
Jesus will confess your name to God and to His angels
You live an eternal life with Christ
and so many more promises I can't even list them all!! But does that sound like anything you want to miss out on? I think not!!
What if you don't like the reward offered?
Well, there is another reward and it has promise as well.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, and according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
There is no escaping the judgment of Christ. Believe it, don't believe it. That has no bearing on its vitally. You can believe that the sky is purple but that doesn't make it true. You also have to remember who we are up against and fighting on a daily basis. Satan!! And don't get me wrong but he is good at what he does. He isn't called the "Angel of Light" for a reason. Satan can appear so right, so perfect that you'd never question it had you not known the truth. Thankfully, we have a God who loved us enough to write us a letter and explain it all to us.
You see we don't read the Bible to say we read it. We read it over and over and over again to learn what God is revealing to us through His word. He tells us how to overcome, why we should overcome, that it will be hard to overcome, and if you are an overcomer He tells you that He loves you and you are welcome to live in His house with His Father forever!!
It's a love story!! From an amazingly Holy, and Powerful God who cares so much for us that He sent His only son to die for us and our sins. A man that was sinless in God's eyes. A man that didn't deserve to die. A man who loved His Father so much He was willing to do that for us. So we may live with Him and His Father in eternity forever and ever!!
I love you, Lord!! Thank you!! <3 b="" nbsp="">3>
