Today I'm going to share some secrets of the trade with you! I've done mass research and taken the most consistent information and compiled it all here!
Why is there research you ask? Let's start off by saying that I am not, at all a Makeup Artist. I just play one on t.v.! Hahaha! No, I'm kidding I don't..unless Facebook and Youtube videos count?
So when writing this or even making my crazy videos, I wanted to make sure that I am giving out the best information as possible. I'd hate to tell you all to use something or try a new idea/look and have it not work out.
Some of these you may of all heard of but I really tried to search out ways that will guarantee you great results.
Below I've made a list of the Top 7 ways you too can achieve a Professional Makeup application at home, every time!
1. Invest in the right tools!
One of the most consistent things I keep reading about in the Makeup world is how important having the correct tools are. They can make or break a great looking makeup look.
Having the correct makeup tools not only makes the application of your makeup easier but it gives it a more even and natural look to it. Nothing looks worse than when someone can tell you have a lot of face makeup on but most of us can't get away with that. Trust me, this is one of the rules I broke and didn't even know it. I always would use my hands and fingers to apply my makeup. After investing in good brushes I've really seen a big difference and it seems to take me less time.
2. Contouring is your friend
We all have that area on our face that drives us nuts. For me, it is my nose. With a Highlight and Contour Kit, you can minimize the area that you feel are unflattering and enhance the areas of your face that you love and are confident about.

3. Choose the correct Concealer for your skin tone!
Concealer is one of those beauty items that women either love or hate to use. This affinity or disgruntled attitude toward the product is usually determined by whether or not it’s being used properly.
Concealer is usually used around the eyes, lips and to cover blemishes and it comes in liquid and cream form. Whether you’re using it to hide a blemish, scar or to add definition to your look, concealer can be your new best friend. Don’t deprive yourself of this beauty lifesaver. I’ve got you covered (literally!) with these tips to help you find the right shade and use it the right way.
Concealer Tips and advice:
- Orange-based tones are ideal for the darker skin.
- Go one shade lighter than your natural complexion.
- A good way to test whether or not a shade works for you is by dabbing it on the blue veins on your wrist or on your neck below the ear.
- When covering dark circles under the eyes use a cream concealer since this is a sensitive area of the face. Also, be cautious of using a shade that’s too light because it can cause a light-colored raccoon effect.
- Concealer can also be used as a lipstick primer. Just dab it on before applying the color. It can also help keep a bright shade from excessive smudging if you line the area around the very edge of your lips with it.
4. Always Blend Up
A beauty blender is going to be your favorite new tool. After applying your makeup with the correct brushes. Go back over your face with a damp blender. It will remove any extra excess foundation you may have on and give you a fully blended look.
5. Never use just one color on your eyebrows
I am guilty of this! Until recently I still used just one color on my eyebrows, which I feel gave them a duller look and without definition feel. Instead, try using two shades on your eyebrows.
Lighter on the inner corners
Darker on the outer corners
Highlight under and over brow to clean up any mess with concealer.

6. Prep those Lips
To get the most out of your lip color, the application is key. I always take a little bit of lip balm and lightly coat my lips. Next I'll take a new but not used toothbrush and gently message my lips. That increases the blood flow and gives them a more healthy plump look.
