Do you ever think about that question? What price have you paid for salvation?
Let me ask it another way. What has your salvation cost you?
If your answer is nothing then I suggest you keep reading this because if Christ paid his life on the cross, it is going to cost you something!
Contrary to popular believe saying a simple prayer and expecting that to buy your way into heaven, while you then go on with your sinful life, you are mistaken. On the other hand, there is no amount of "good works" that can be done to earn your way either. It says that our best are like filthy rags to Him.
So what is true salvation and most importantly how does one obtain it?
First, let's start off with our initial question. What price have you paid for salvation?
When God says in (Luke 9:22-23) that you must pick up your cross and follow him. What do you think that means? It means it is going to cost you! True salvation is seeing what Christ did for YOU on the cross. Every lashing he took was because of YOUR sins. He paid that price for YOU! Yet, we think we can just go about our life. Continually sinning against him with our months, our bodies, our hearts.
When was the last time you repented for sins? Repentance is to turn away from sin. So to repent means a choice to turn from the sin and move forward. Not looking back but trusting God to help give you strength in times of temptation.
So, when refer to it having a price, it does. You won't want to listen to the same music, watch the same shows or movies, your thinking changes. A friendship or relationship may end. Loved ones may not understand your journey and walk away. Can you see the cost now? Salvation does have a price and you pay. Sometimes you don't realize it at the time but hindsight is always 20/20.
I encourage you to examine your life. Pray and ask God to reveal your heart. He will. Don't be self-deceived into thinking you can just keep on sinning and somehow you're covered. I've added a couple teaching from a very trusted pastor. He is biblical and goes only by what the word of God says.
Your salvation is eternal and between you and God. I too was self-deceived and thought I was saved. However, you don't actively sin against God if you are one of His. Which I was. I have to bow my knee. Not an easy process I've found, them flesh is strong willed but I will not give up. I want nothing more than to live in heaven with God for eternity.
After all, we all know what the alternative is.
Luke 9:22-23
22“The Son of Man must suffer many things,” He said. “He must be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” 23Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
Matthew 10:38
and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.
Mark 8:34
Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples, and He told them, "If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
Luke 14:27
And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.
